One hanging,two arriving

The published book has its room in full. The two that are still being written have rooms of their own as well: walls up, lights on, waiting. A museum can hang patience.

In Love with God

May 2020 Poems & a short story · 127 pages Paperback English

Contemplations of the creation about the Creator. A collection of spiritual poetry written not from a pulpit but from the floor: the everyday devotions, doubts, and gratitudes of someone who calls himself an ordinary servant of God.

The poems are joined by “Friends of Allah,” a parable about looking for saints and finding neighbours, and by the short story “The Treasure Within,” which readers keep writing to the poet about. It is a book made to be kept close rather than displayed: the kind readers report finishing at three in the morning and starting again at four.

The artist’s note

“A servant’s ramblings. God’s name on every page.”

“An absolutely amazing journey of finding one’s self and God.”
Andaleeb Sahar · student of English literature
Excerpt · the poem behind the short story

Some people look for treasure but ignore the treasure in their hand, Alas, how much of a fool are they? Who throw away pearls for the sake of a shiny glass. Your heart, Alas! Was the treasure you lost. In the greed for more you gave away diamonds for merely some brass.

From In Love with God · the seed of “The Treasure Within”

From the dedication

“It’s also dedicated to those who are on a journey to find themselves, and their Creator. Good luck wanderers.”

“Thoughts and words which you might relate to · it’s certainly something that will reach the depths of your heart, should you keep it open.”
Bilal Zia · aviation professional & avid reader
“The poet has chosen such a subject which is not easy to address. The diction is very simple and easy · he plays with words in a way which is comprehensible almost for all the readers.”
Jameel · teacher, Masters in English literature

Zankadan: The Last Breath

Forthcoming Poetry

“Where the mountains hold the last exhale.” Zankadan is the book of loss: heartbreak, grief, and the long walk back from both. Two fragments from the manuscript hang below; the rest is still being written.

From the manuscript

When the chaos erupts in my mind and the fire burns my heart, the pain becomes the words, the scream becomes the pen, and the universe becomes a page.

From the manuscript · a second fragment

Two stars met somewhere in the universe. One thought it was a moment, The other thought it was for eternity.

Curator’s note

This room is still being hung. The walls are up, the light is set, and the book is on its way. The poet does not rush, and the museum has learned not to ask.

Jwand: The Beginning

Forthcoming Poetry

“Before the world named me anything.” Jwand, which is life in Pakhto, goes back to the beginning: the valley, the first breath, and the earlier writing, when the poems were still about earthly love. The book of the era before the dream.

From the manuscript · how it began

She told him that she always wanted a poem to be written on her. That night a poet was born.

From Jwand: The Beginning · forthcoming

Curator’s note

The second of the two rooms in waiting. Between them, these walls will one day hold the last breath and the beginning · in that order, because the poet numbered them that way.
